3 Top Reasons NOT To Go Off Grid

Sharing is caring!

Why do you want to go off grid? Here are some great reasons NOT to go off grid.

Reasons NOT to Go Off Grid!

1 – If you like wasting money and overspending on EVERYTHING you purchase:

The fact is we buy stuff we don’t need. It’s a waste and we really don’t need and can’t afford to waste money on things that don’t enhance and make our lives better. For example.

  • Fast Food: First, fast food is BAD FOR YOU! Simple as that. There is no healthy fast food. The health loss and financial waste are staggering. Not only does a cheeseburger, fries, and a coke make for a crappy meal that only satisfies you temporarily, it’s full of preservatives and most likely GMOs (genetically modified organisms) that are not proven to be safe for human consumption.
  • Knickknacks, Baubles, Trinkets, and Tchotchkes: All a waste when you’re trying to save money. Now, in some people’s defense, not everyone buys worthless trinkets, and not all trinkets are worthless. But if you’re trying to save money to go off grid and make the move to changing your lifestyle for the better, it might be a good idea to suspend the novelty item purchases for a while. At least until you go off grid. Then you can buy as many as you like. 😉
  • Gas: Fuel for our vehicles seems like a necessity. And for many, it is because some people work across town. But maybe cut back on the commute, get a smaller vehicle, 0r take public transportation.

2 – If You Like Giving Your Money to “The Man”: Utility bills, leases, rent, mortgages are all debt mechanisms and keep you having to live week to week and paycheck to paycheck. The problem is, it’s very hard if not impossible to save money to move off grid while paying your regular bills. Unless of course you get a second job and sock all that money into savings, all the while spending less time with your family. This brings us to the third reason NOT to go off grid.

3 – If You Don’t Like Spending Quality Time With Your Family:  While we’re all out punching a clock and struggling to make ends meet, pay the mortgage, car payment, and put food on the table, life and TIME are passing us by. Our families are being neglected and it’s hurting the ones we love. Our relationships are suffering, kids are becoming more unruly and disrespectful, and parents are getting divorced more often.

There are many reasons for these family dynamics, and we could argue semantics all day about what causes the downfall of family life, but the simple fact remains. Family is the most important thing in life and love! No matter who you are, you need to be loved, and your children and spouse/partner, and other loved ones are the most important people on Earth.

We owe it to them to be there for them. If we’re out working all the time paying for all the DEBT and STUFF we have, then we’re neglecting our families, and that’s not cool. This is not to say that everyone (or anyone) is neglecting their families. But, wouldn’t you rather live life knowing that you spent every moment possible with your family spending quality time with them, creating great lifetime achievements, family projects, events, and wonderful family memories, all the while teaching them to become self-sufficient…?

We must step up and out of this throwaway lifestyle into something more sustainable. Something more fulfilling and wonder-filled. Sure it’s hard work. Sure it will cost some money. Sure, it’s not going to be easy. But we’re all doing it in our own way. There’s no right or wrong way to do it as long as we’re not harming anyone in the process.

I look at it as a gift. A gift to my family from me. Sure I could work my ass off for 30 years and hope there’s a pension and a nice retirement waiting for me and my family, but the fact is it’s not like that anymore. I want to give my family a gift. The gift of a debt-free off grid homestead. I have a duty to my family to give them my time and love and provide for them as best I can. And I want every day in my family’s life to be like Christmas. Why can’t every day be like Christmas? It can be! If we set our minds to do it.

I want my family to be happy and secure and I think most people are like that. I believe most people just want to be happy, but what they don’t realize is it’s easier to do than you think.

There’s no reason why we can’t plan for the future while still living NOW!  There’s no reason why we can’t become debt-free, mortgage-free, utility bill-free, car payment-free, and free ourselves, from the confines of a system that cares nothing for us.

We can all work toward this goal together and most importantly for our families.

All I want for my family is for them to be free and happy.

That, and an off grid cabin in the middle of nowhere… with wifi!
